As the excitement of Christmas has come to a close, an every-other-year excitement has been growing. Our ballet this coming summer is going to be about the life of Helen Keller. Just before Christmas break, casting was announced, and I was given the part of adult/elderly Helen. This will be my last ballet with the homeschool dance program, and I am so thankful to get to share the experience with many dear friends!
The ballet is told through flashbacks, with adult/elderly Helen remembering certain momentous parts of her life. My teachers have set quotes by Helen Keller to instrumental songs, and we had the opportunity to dance to one of these pieces for the audition. Here's a peak at it~
“It seems to me that there is in each of us a capacity to comprehend the impressions and emotions which have been experienced by mankind from the beginning. Each individual has a subconscious memory of the green earth and murmuring waters, and blindness and deafness cannot rob him of this gift from past generations. This inherited capacity is a sort of sixth sense- a soul-sense which sees, hears, feels, all in one.” ~Helen Keller
This quote, and really the whole ballet, has me thinking about senses. Thus, when contemplating a word for 2014, sense is what has come to mind. It should be interesting, as my Myers Briggs personality is intuitive rather than sensing, and I'm excited explore it further.
Hope you have a very happy new year! (and if you, too, have chosen a word for the year, I'd love to hear it!)
